Progress Report

March 27, 2013

We are almost finished with the first third of the year (anyone else feel like March has flown by?) I was thinking it might be a good time to evaluate how my wishlist for 2013 was shaping up.Listed below is my original list and my comments on the progress (or lack there of)

1) follow in the foot steps of the yarn harlot and make my own sock of the month club -the patterns and yarn are picked just waiting for Jan. 1 to cast on the first one.
(Failed. Whoops, this has definitely fallen off the radar, I didn’t even make it through the first month.  As of now this has definitely been scratched off the list)

2)Work on my book, with hopes of getting it out to the first round of beta readers in March

(Some progress. I was able to get the first chapter out for some beta readers this month.)

3) work on a long-range planning box ( also inspired by the yarn harlot)- perhaps as an attempt to avoid the end of the year/holiday gift giving panic.

(Success. I have managed to steadily fill this up.)

4)Become more confident in my skills as a writer
(No progress. I am definitely lacking in this area still.)

5) knit from my own hand spun
(No progress. I have yet to find a pattern to use some my hand spun on. it’s been difficult due to the minimal yardage I have been achieving.)

6) finish knitted item for a wedding in the summer- the deadline looms closer everyday
(Some progress. I am not as far along as I hoped, but I am still working on it.)

7) teach someone else how to knit
(No progress. At this point I haven’t been able to find anyone to teach.)

8) make items to donate
(Some progress. I have made a few items to donate.)

9) start attending a knitting group- I have attended one in the last year, the group was awesome but then life got in the way and I missed a few weeks, then a month and now it feels like it would be too awkward to go :(
(No progress. The group I originally went to seems to have disbanded and I haven’t gotten the courage to go to a different one.)

10) Try not to feel guilty about pursuing my dream job
(No progress. I am still battling the guilt with this one.)

11) Share more of my writing on the blog
(Some progress. I have been sharing a few more essays but I have not shared any more fiction.)

12) spin more
(Success. I am definitely putting spinning as a priority more often, and trying out new fibers and techniques.)

13) weave place mats
(No progress. I have been steadily working on scarves and just recently branched off into a simple bag.)

14) weave with my own hand spun
(No progress. No real reason for this to not be achieved already.)

15) learn to dye my own fiber
(Some progress. I have bought some of the materials to try it out, I just haven’t had a free weekend to utilize them.)

16) go to a sheep and wool festival- it’s on my schedule for this summer, fingers crossed I don’t get sick
(Some progress. I am still working on the details, but it is on the schedule!)

17) submit an article to a knitting publication
(No progress. I will admit, this one slipped from the radar.)

18) finish the blanket for my bestie
(Some progress. I am still not sure it is big enough and I am also disliking the decreases I chose, it’s currently in time out as I try to figure out a solution.)

19) knit more from my ravelry queue
(Some progress. I have made a few things, and I have cleaned up the queue some, which I am going to take as a win.)

20) Make more lace shawls
(Some progress. I currently have one on the needles, but it’s been in hibernation for a little while.)

21) make more vanilla socks for both my husband and myself
(Some progress. I have a pair on the needles for my husband, just don’t ask how long they have been there.)

22) finally make a pair of mittens and a hat for myself, that I keep. Almost already done with the mittens
(Success! I managed to knock out a pair of mittens and a wonderfully warm hat within the first month of the new year.)

23) try to figure out a way to keep sheep in the apartment ( totally kidding on that one )
(No progress. I have enough trouble keeping up with the cats.)

Totals:

Successes: 3

Some Progress: 10

No Progress: 9

Failed: 1

So there you go. My first third of the year progress report. I think I am doing okay, all things considered. I definitely realize I need to get back into the groove.  How about you? Have you managed to stick with any of your wishlist (resolution) items for 2013? Any successes thus far? How about new goals you have added since January? Any changes to your list?

This is a cute sweater for handspun, if you’re looking for something other than hats/gloves. I think knitty did a few more like this, combining store-bought and handspun, but I can’t find them.

Ditto Shells. I’m in the Midtown area and know of a few places to just hang out if you want a smaller group.

You know, I am not entirely sure where you are located, though I have strong suspicions that you are near me somewhere. If you are in an area accessible to Omaha, let me know. I can get you a lead on a once a month knitting meet up in the Benson area.
