TDF:13- Days 1 and 2

July 1, 2013

The tour has started and I found out that I could spin! I am in no way as fast as normal, nor am I able to spend as long doing it, but by golly I am able to spin.

Day 1 was met with indecision. I wasn’t sure which fiber I wanted to start with. I ended up choosing the good old standby of BFL (go with what you know right?)

Frabjous Fibers, 4oz.. in Iris

My next moment of questioning was how to spin it. I love the colors of this fiber and my first thought was the using a chain-ply to keep the repeats, but I started to think about how much the yardage is shortened with that method and so it was abandoned in favor of a fractal spin.

Day One Bobbin

The husband and I sat down to watch a movie and so I decided it was the perfect time to jump on the wheel. Here’s the progress of day one. This bobbin is the one containing the smaller strips of fiber, and like last time it seems to have gone fast than the other half. After this I called it a night, satisfied in my progress.

Day 2, dawned bright and sunny. Which was great except I woke up feeling really sore in my shoulder and arm (I do think it was unrelated to the spinning) along with this, I was completely exhausted and so I spent most of the day trying to catch up on sleep. I did manage to get some spinning done during the evening, while we watched the Next Food Network Star (I love that show.)

Day Two Bobbin

There was definitely less progress for day 2 but I still remain hopeful in completing this fiber before the end of day 3.

How’s your spinning going?

I do believe that I may have too many projects going on at once. However, I am enjoying each of them, despite the fact that I am unlikely to finish anything at all any time soon.

  2. I love it! The colors are fantastic…after reading all these “tour” posts, spinning has jumped to the top of my list!

  3. Beautiful! Looks like lace weight. Are you going to do a regular (not chain) ply or use as a single? I remember reading about fractal, but I can’t remember what it is…

    • It will actually end up being a two-ply. Thank you for the compliment!

      • Plying is my favorite part! Maybe I’m just impatient that way because plying goes so much faster than spinning singles. 🙂
