The half way point

July 23, 2013

One of the things I love about knitting socks, besides how clever you feel after executing a heel turn, is how once you finish the heel you are pretty much half way to completion. Okay, okay I do know that in most cases this is complete and utter hokum, but sometimes a knitter has got to get…er creative (ha) when it comes to motivation. The malabrigo for me (MM) socks are progressing, despite the cats best efforts. Anyone else have a feline that likes to lay on the knitting. Not beside it, not near it, but smack dab right on it? Anyone else have one of those cats that like to freak out and attack your hand/arm, well really any body part close enough, if you attempt to move the fur beast?

As of now the cat is passed out on top of the MM socks leaving me left to stare forlornly at them and sob silently to myself. Totally kidding, it’s just dust in the air, yeah that’s it dust. Anyway I have three other pairs of socks that I could be working on and a whole whack (technical term) of other projects all asking for attention, but of course my heart’s desire has decided to single in on those socks. What does it mean that I seem to knit on them now that they are trapped beneath the furry butt of doom? Well let’s ignore the psychological implications and move on.

My beloved

I have actually been working on something other than the MM socks (no not the other socks, don’t look at me like that, just because they all are destined for my husband’s giant feet, doesn’t mean they are getting rejected outright. No I would not be that selfish. I have proof!) As part of a donation to a benefit for a tiny human, who was born with some pretty serious health issues I whipped up one of my vanilla baby hats. One of the things I love about this pattern is the quickness, well that and the fact that I really don’t have to concentrate too much.

20130718_151528The hat is seen here, already at the point of decreases. I ended up using up some of the Felici sport weight I scored at the last Cyber Monday sale via Knit Picks. The color may seem familiar, I had used it in my first/second attempt at toe up socks, which sadly ended with a trip to the frog pond. Anyway the color is dapple, which for some reason makes me think of dabble and/or dapper depending on my level of sleep to caffeine ratio.

20130718_163031See in the time frame it took you to read that previous section, boom the hat is done (any insinuation that this hat took less than the actual amount of time is purely for entertainment purposes. IK is not responsible for any confusion and/or laughing that might result from a non-knitter requesting a handmade hat from a knitter.) An adorable little addition to the pile for donation.

Now if you will excuse me I have a cat to evict.

Oh my gosh, if you have not seen this already I think you will love it. The very first one is what made me think of you since you posted about your cat(s) wanting to sit directly on top of your knitting. Having two cats of our own, Andy and I could point to at least one of them for almost everything mentioned in this video. Enjoy 🙂

  2. I love those colors in the Felici yarn from Knit Picks that you have and may try to score some- can you tell me the colorway please? 🙂

    • It’s the dapple color way. I don’t know if they will have anymore since it was part of their sport brand, which I think they eliminated recently.
