August Sock update

August 12, 2015

It’s not quite the middle of August and I am already half-way through this month’s pair of socks. The Rose City Rollers pattern definitely helped we hit this point already. The sock is a little cuff length thing that leaves me thinking I can eek out a full pair with one skein, and have enough left over for a small square on my scrappy blanket. The yarn has started to grow on me, and it probably has a lot to do with the pattern (the fact that I am using slightly larger needles 1.50mm doesn’t hurt either. Instead of having a large mass of pooling and random blobs all over, I am left with something that makes me think of that old frightful Freddy.

The striping isn’t exactly straight stacking, instead it is a spiral which doesn’t really matter to me because at the very least there isn’t any blobs. As some of you may be able to tell from the above photo, I decided to do the Fish Lips Kiss heel instead of the one listed in the pattern. I am confident in saying that this time around the heel was not only easier but also better. I want to thank Serenova for the helpful advice, I do think you were right and I must have not knit the last two pairs at the right point, so thank you!

I have made a point to cast on the second sock and have already worked a few rows, this action combined with the fact that these socks are so quick, should allow me to finish before the end of the month (I would say sooner, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.)

So how is your crafting going? Anyone else have an almost pooling-blob disaster averted thanks to a variety of reasons? Are you a fan of pooling-blobs? Have you tried the Rose City Rollers pattern, what are your thoughts?

  1. So glad I was able to help! I’ve noticed that that’s a mistake quite a few people do on the heel (I’ve helped some ladies at my LYS with that) so I figured a little advice wouldn’t hurt. 🙂 It does get easier over time and is fairly easy to remember once you’ve done it.

I’m not exactly a big horror movie fan, but I like the look of the sock regardless! I just like red socks though so that’s probably it. 😛 It’s funny, I’ve never really minded when socks pool, so I just let the yarn do what it wants, but I understand why some people aren’t fans of it. It can look a little funky at times!

  2. Sorry, just started knitting socks and I don’t know what you mean by pooling blobs but I’m really curious about that and this new toe style. I’ll try to find a pattern with said toes for my next pair of socks. I’m also seriously awed by your sock knitting skill and speed!

  3. Freddy socks! Lol! Love it!
